SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—This city has installed Axis thermal and pan/tilt/zoom cameras to secure a utilities substation, Axis announced Nov. 26.

The system has already alerted police of four incidents at one substation, according to the release. Security systems save the city $6,000 per copper theft, and help to protect staff and intruders from electrocution, the release says.

City Utilities installed Axis Q1921-E thermal network cameras and P5532-E PTZ dome network cameras along substation perimeters, and to protect the areas and identify intruders, according to the release.

Because some of the secured substations are in residential areas, the city’s use of thermal cameras cuts light pollution, according to the release.
