ABC’s next step is consolidation

LEWISVILLE, Texas - American Building Controls is moving forward with its reorganization, recently announcing plans to bring its MDI Security Systems and ABM Data Systems operations to a single location. The consolidation will result in MDI Security and ABM Data sharing a 32,000-square-foot office and warehouse facility in San Antonio, Texas, and a significant reduction in workforce. The company currently employs 150 people, with MDI Security operating from a facility in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., while ABM Data is located in Austin, Texas. Bringing the company together at one location is an important step to providing an integrated solution to customers, according to J. Collier Sparks, president of MDI Security and ABM Data. While the company will see a reduction of employees in redundant positions, such as back office functions, American Building Controls plans to increases its technical support department. The company has also reorganized its sales force to focus on three vertical markets. The commercial unit will distribute the company’s PointGuard product, while enterprise will sell the company’s SAFEnet line. ABM products will then be distributed under the company’s Phoenix Business Solutions name. American Building Controls initially announced plans to reorganize the company in March. While the company intends to focus on its core business of ABM Data and MDI Security, it has placed its SecurityandMore and industrial distribution business IVS up for sale.
