GARLAND, Texas - In June, Garrett Metal Detectors finished installing the last of $1 million worth of walk-through devices at airports across the United States, which followed Garrett’s ongoing deal as the sole supplier of hand-held metal detectors used by the Transportation Security Administration.
In the last year, Garrett has delivered more than 11,000 of its SuperWands to U.S. airports, bringing in about $1.1 million, according to The Dallas Morning News. According to a company spokesman, the new walk-through detectors Garrett just finished installing represent an improvement over earlier models.
Airports represented five percent of Garrett’s sales two years ago. Today, they make up more than 60 percent.
