How I Use My System: Talking panels and keypads with Phil Yereck of Future Security Controls

Phil Yereck, project coordinator and senior technician at Mississauga, Ontario-based Future Security Controls, entered the security industry after stints in the data and communications fields. With a degree from an electrical engineering technologist program, Yereck transitioned to security integration. Part of what facilitated the switch, Yereck said, was the industry's evolution to an IP-centric world—a world with which his skills and background are compatible. Yereck talked to Security Systems News about how he handles security at home.

What kind of security system do you have at home?

I have a DSC Alexor alarm system, which is monitored by Future Security Controls.

Why this particular setup?

We bought a townhome, which makes it hard to run wires throughout the house. The Alexor is completely wireless for devices, including the keypad. It is a fast and efficient system to install and maintain.

What is the one aspect of your security system that you wouldn't want to live without?

Smoke and carbon detectors. We have a pet and couldn't live with the thought of a fire or gas leak while we were at work or while we slept.

Where do you see security going next? What are some big trends?

Wireless is always in demand, and as prices of devices continue to lower over time there will be no need for running wires. I expect that security system installations will be faster and affordable to more homes and businesses.
