Jim Spencer, industry veteran, passes away at 61

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Security industry veteran Jim Spencer, known as a mentor and coach to many, passed away July 11 at the age of 61. Spencer was most recently president of Tartan Group, a security consulting firm, and since 1999 served as a director of Frisco Bay Industries, a systems integration firm. Spencer was heavily involved in the security industry, serving as a contributor to ST&D, a security industry publication, and a speaker at industry events. He entered the security industry after 20 years with IBM, where he held the position of manager of the IBM Briefing Center in Boca Raton until his departure. He later became vice president and part owner of Casi Rusco, an access control manufacturer now part of GE Interlogix.
