ST. CLOUD, Fla.--Following a spate of vandalism, town officials here have voted to install a new security system at the historic Cracker Village, currently under restoration within Peghorn Park. In late December, the City Council voted to "authorize the waiver of the formal bidding requirements by accepting a written quote from American Lock and Door Specialties, Inc., for the purchase of a security surveillance system. " The council allocated roughly $30,000 for the project.
Park officials would not supply contact information for American Lock and Door, however, and the company was not listed with information. "Cracker" is a term that refers to pioneer Florida settlers of the 1800s, reported the Orlando Sentinel.
