NBFAA, Las Vegas fire officials meet
QUINCY, Mass.-James Shannon, senior vice president and general counsel for the National Fire Protection Association, was elected president and chief executive officer of the association by the board of directors at their March 6 meeting.
Shannon was selected from a pool of other candidates considered by the board's search committee, as well as those recommended by an outside executive search organization, said Julie Reynolds, an NFPA spokesperson.
"The Search Committee focused its efforts on identifying and recruiting a leader whose background, personal qualities and skills set comprise the most appropriate fit for NFPA," said Martin Reiss, chairman of the NFPA's board of directors. "Jim Shannon is an outstanding model of leadership and equal to the demands necessary to achieve NFPA's important mission."
Shannon, who has been with the association for the last decade, has previously served as the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979 to 1985.
A former senior partner in the Boston law firm of Hale & Dorr, Shannon will replace George Miller, who will retire after serving as president for 10 years. The change is scheduled to take effect June 1.
