Sonitrol central aids police in foiling burglary attempt HIALEAH, Fla. - A monitored Sonitrol of Fort Lauderdale system installed at South Florida tobacco retailer Tobacco King alerted police to three burglars attempting to break into the store through the roof. Through microphones that measure sound levels at the store, the Sonitrol system was triggered by the sound of the suspects trying to chop through the roof. After dispatch personnel at the central station were able to determine by the live audio feed that an attempted break-in was occurring, officers from the Hialeah Police Department responded to the scene and apprehended two of the three suspects before they were able to break through the roof. Police caught the suspects about 14 minutes after the central station dispatched the call. Sonitrol of Fort Lauderdale has aided local police in apprehending 21 intruders in businesses in Broward and Dade counties through the middle of June, including seven suspects that were caught during the actual burglary attempt. Each month Security Systems News will feature in this column a story where a security or life safety system did its job to save a life or property.
