Security industry mourns the loss of George Gunning

LOS ANGELES—George Gunning, a legend in security for his pioneering efforts and work with numerous industry associations, passed away Feb. 14. He was 83.

Gunning was a co-owner and former CEO of Monrovia, Calif.-based USA Alarm Systems, which was established in 1979.

Gunning most notably played key roles with several industry associations, including time as president and secretary of the California Alarm Association (CAA), vice president and president of National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA), and a member of the board of directors of the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC).

During his time leading the NBFAA, which was later renamed Electronic Security Association (ESA), Gunning was instrumental in creating the Electronic Security Expo (ESX) in 2007 in partnership with the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA), which was later renamed The Monitoring Association (TMA).

Gunning also received the Morris F. Weinstock Person of the Year in recognition for his service to the industry, one of the Elecroince Security Industry's highest honors.

Memorial services will be held: Friday, March 1, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. PST at the Grace Community Church, 13248 Roscoe Blvd., Sun Valley, CA 91352
