SFPE appoints David Evans as new executive director

BETHESDA, Md. - The Society of Fire Protection Engineers has appointed David Evans as its new executive director of the 3,500 member not-for-profit firm for fire protection engineering professionals. Evans succeeds Kathleen Almand, who has been executive director of SFPE for seven years. She has been named executive director of the National Fire Protection Association’s Research Foundation. Evans joins SFPE from the National Institute of Standards and Technology where he served as a manager within its advanced fire service technologies program. Previously, he was chief of its Fire Safety Engineering division. Almand announced her resignation internally and to the board of directors in May. She will begin her tenure at NFPA’s Quincy, Mass. office in October.
