Sorrentino named president of ScanSource Security Security business unit has experienced CAGR of 62 percent since inception in 2005

GREENVILLE, S.C.—Tony Sorrentino on Jan. 12 was promoted to president of ScanSource Security, a business unit of ScanSource Inc.

“We're excited about the opportunity in the market,” Sorrentino told Security Systems News. “We started in 2005 and really spent five years introducing ourselves to the market and establishing the ScanSource brand in the security industry.”

ScanSource Security has had CAGR of 62 percent from 2005 through 2011, Sorrentino said. “We've done well and there's still more we can do,” he added.

ScanSource Security has been without a person in the official role of president for several years. However, Sorrentino, who was previously VP of sales for ScanSource Security and Paul Constantine, who was vice president of merchandising, “acted as co-presidents” and reported to Scott Benbenek, president of worldwide operations for ScanSource Inc., Sorrentino said.

The company announced on Jan. 12 that Constantine will move on to head another ScanSource Inc. business unit. He was named president of ScanSource POS/Barcoding North America.

Sorrentino said ScanSource's value to the market is “that we make things easy [with] knowledgeable sales reps … dedicated technical support (that) can assist our customers and our sales team.”

There has been “more call for our custom-configuration services,” and the company's IP workshops are also popular, Sorrentino said. “We go to Atlanta next and then to California.”

ScanSource is headquartered here. It has sales offices here and in Phoenix, Ariz., and its distribution center is in Southhaven, Miss. “We're five miles from the Memphis airport and right next to FedEx,” Sorrentino said.

Sixty employees work only for the security business unit. “We have shared resources from ScanSource Inc. at the distribution center, where there are hundreds of employees,” he said. The company also shares resources in financial services, marketing and other back-office support.
