Wyoming adopts trio of NFPA codes

CHEYENNE, Wyo. - State officials here adopted the current editions of three codes from the National Fire Protection Association to create a unified code across the state. Gov. David Freudenthal signed the legislation that adopts the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, NFPA 58 Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code and NFPA 54 National Fuel Gas Code for new and existing healthcare facilities. The three codes are part of the Comprehensive Consensus Codes, known as C3, in development by the NFPA and other code developers. “The Wyoming Fire Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety is committed to protecting life and property from fire and electrical hazards,” said Wyoming State Fire Marshal Jim Noel. “Enforcing those nationally recognized and widely adopted NFPA codes is one of the ways we ensure a high level of public safety and achieve our more important objectives.” The new legislation also stipulates that NFPA 70 National Electrical Code would prevail in the event of a code conflict in any provision of the state codes. The adoptions will become effective July 1, 2003.
