Marion, Ohio Police to enforce false alarm ordinance

MARION, Ohio—A Jan. 19 story from the Marion Star reports authorities will begin enforcing a 2005 false alarm ordinance Jan. 24 in hopes of combating the city’s false alarm problem. Homeowners and businesses are asked to make sure alarms are in proper working order to avoid fines.

GREENVILLE, S.C.—According to a story from CBS affiliate, WSPA Channel 7, during the Greenville, S.C. City Council meeting Jan. 14, the council unanimously voted for an ordinance that could help decrease the number of false alarms from going off in businesses and residential areas.

MONROE, Conn.—A story from the Connecticut Post reports the Monroe Town Council passed an ordinance Dec. 13 that decrees a homeowner will be fined $50 the second time his or her alarm goes off without good cause, with the fine going up for repeat offenses. The ordinance was pared down from an original version, which called for a one-time fee when a homeowner registered an alarm, as well as a yearly maintenance fee.

Ford County Commission cracks down on false alarms

DODGE CITY, Kan.—A Dec. 7 story from the Dodge City Daily Globe reports the Ford County Commission voted Dec. 6 to crack down on false alarms by charging repeat offenders a $25 fee for each alarm, with an exception for weather-related alarms. The first false alarm each month would be free, but the user would pay the fee for each one after that.
