WASHINGTON -The advisory committee of one of the country’s most powerful fire protection advocacy groups has endorsed the concept of a federal tax break as an incentive for the installation of fire sprinkler systems in residential and commercial buildings.

Although the movement for the tax incentive is still in its infancy, sprinkler industry officials said that the resolution from the National Advisory Council of the Congressional Fire Services Institute, a non-profit group that educates members of Congress on fire issues, is one of the first major steps in the development of legislation and an important stride toward broadening awareness of the issue.

Integrated Security rounds out offering with fire line addition

Texas firm wins federal contract

AMARILLO, Texas -Reynosa Construction, based here, has been awarded a $295,100 contract from the Air Force Air Education and Training Command at Sheppard Air Force Base.

As part of the job, Reynosa Construction will replace the fire alarm system.

FEMA, NFPA strike equipment interoperability discussion

WASHINGTON - A group of federal officials, security and fire trade associations and other organizations with interests in the fire equipment realm will meet sometime this month to continue an industry dialogue on how different types of fire equipment work together in emergency situations.

The meeting, which will be hosted by the National Fire Protection Association, is a follow-up to a meeting held in early October, said Julie Reynolds, an NFPA spokesperson.

Montana company wins contract

GREAT FALLS, Mont. - Enterprise Electric has been awarded a $484,550 contract from the Air Force Space Command, Malmstrom Air Force Base, to repair a fire alarm system and install equipment receptacles in a building.

Phone company seeks ordinance exemption

HONOLULU - The state's largest telephone company is hoping for an exemption from a year-old ordinance requiring it to retrofit its 17-story building with a fire sprinkler system.

The appeal comes as the Honolulu Fire Department readies this month to send out compliance letters, giving building owners five years to install sprinkler systems.
