Just got this in my inbox. ESX has changed the dates of next year's conference to June 6-10. I'm happy to hear that as I believe it was originally going to conflict or be back to back with the NFPA show. Here's the text of the press release: ESX Changes Dates For 2011 Event Event to Take Place in Charlotte During the First Week of June July 30, 2010 - Today the Electronic Security Expo (ESX), owned and sponsored by the Electronic Security Association (ESA) and the Central Station Alarm Association...

July 30, 2010SSN Staff

DAVENPORT, Iowa—Executives at PerMar Security, a Midwestern super-regional, attribute a jump in RMR sales this year to new services on the commercial and residential side of the business. "Our RMR sales year-to-date is up 37 percent over the same period last year," said Brad Tolliver, vice president of Per Mar's Electronic Security Division. ADT lawsuit settled

July 29, 2010Tess Nacelewicz

A patent lawsuit, dating back to 2006, filed by Paradox Security Systems of Montreal originally against ADT and DSC and eventually also including Protection One and Monitronics appears to have been put to rest. Here's a very convoluted legalese-ridden take on the recent judgment from leagle.com. Not easy to figure out what happened from that document, right? A news outlet called Law360 translated that for me. They reported that on July 19 the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in East...

G4S president talks integration strategy

July 29, 2010SSN Staff

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.—News last week that G4S had purchased Nuclear Security Services Corp., an integrator and manufacturer serving the nuclear facility marketplace, should not have been surprising. Coming on the heels of purchases of integration firms Adesta earlier this year and Touchcom two years ago, G4S, touted as the world's largest security firm, is clearly interested in the high-end integration marketplace. But why? "It's not that we're acquiring to dominate the systems integration...

Diebold down 5%, but how'd security do?

July 29, 2010Martha Entwistle

Diebold put out their 2Q results yesterday and it's yet another sign that the boomtimes aren't exactly back: Total revenues are down 5 percent YTD, though down just 4 percent comparing 2Q 2010 to 2Q 2009. Still, it'd be nice to see some sign of a turnaround, right? (North American revenues are actually down 14 percent YTD!) The one good thing they can point to is the security segment: “Security orders increased 7% overall driven by year over year increases in non-financial markets.” But...
