New ordinance passed in West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.-An ordinance replacing legislation that allowed the Sheriff's office to stop responding to alarms was replaced in mid-April with a new false alarm ordinance that slashes false alarm fines and permit fees.
The new fines begin at $50 for the third alarm, rise to $75 for the fifth, $100 for the sixth and $500 for ten or more, according to a report in the Sun-Sentinel.
The new ordinance, which was approved at a meeting in mid-April, was drafted in conjunction with security companies in the county.
Guardian International posts increased
monitoring revenues
HOLLYWOOD, Fla.-Guardian International reported increased monitoring revenues of $3.5 million for the first quarter of 2002, up five percent from the $3.3 million the company reported for the same period last year.
Total revenues for the period also increased by five percent to $5.4 million for the first quarter. Installation and service revenues of $1.9 million were six percent above last year's levels of $1.8 million.
10-digit dialing begins in Waterloo region
WATERLOO, Ontario-Callers in Waterloo and the surrounding area will have to dial 10 digits to reach the new area code of 226, which is being assigned to all new phone numbers.
The new local area code, which will cover the area from Guelph to Windsor, was necessary because of a shortage of available numbers in the 519 area code.
The 10-digit dialing will not begin until 2005.
