A more moderate climate

I am opening my blog this week with an apology to my poor Editor, Cory Harris, whose coattails might be a little more damp than usual on my account.
Good-natured Cory stood in for me during this year’s GSX conference in Florida, a show that was by all accounts productive and full of interesting new products, features, software, and partnerships. All well and good if you minded the weather. That’s right, the Security Systems News (SSN) team got chased out of Orlando by Hurricane Helene, thankfully missing the worst of it while giving up some valuable networking opportunities.
I will surely make it up to him next year when the conference will be held in…New Orleans? Did I read that right? From the frying pan into the fire, oof. Well maybe the following year won’t be so bad, it’ll be in…Atlanta, Georgia.
Now I have to ask, is there a reason one of the most important security conferences of the year is held consistently in hurricane prone areas during hurricane season? Is this a carefully crafted conspiracy to do away with security industry members? I hope they get a good rate on the booking at least. Maybe the organizers of ISC West and GSX could get together and agree to do a little switcheroo.
That’s right, lets visit New Orleans during the spring, heck maybe even during Mardi Gras, wouldn’t that be an exciting switch up? Vegas might be a little warm yet in September but coming from Arizona I think it would be more acceptable to put up with some unpleasant heat for a few days instead of dodging inclement weather.
Or hey, maybe somebody could schedule a conference in Phoenix for a change. It’ll spare me a plane ride and I know where all the best restaurants are.
