Alfred International launches smart mortise lock in US

TORONTO — Alfred International, the smart and connected lock subsidiary of GHT Door Hardware, has launched its patented Alfred ML2 Smart Mortise Lock with Z-Wave Long Range in the U.S.

The company says the ML2 combines state-of-the-art technology with a keypad and drive mechanism that makes it an ideal retrofit solution for properties with long-standing, older mortise style locks. It offers convenience for property managers and homeowners looking to upgrade their mortise style locks with a smart lock without completely replacing or re-keying their existing lock and avoiding many typical installation problems.

“Many properties have historically maintained their preferred mechanical lock brands, lever styles, and keyways,” said Brad Cook, head of product & integrations, Alfred International, Inc. “With the ML2, property managers can easily upgrade older or existing locks with smart features and functionality while preserving the aesthetic and operational integrity of their chosen lock brands. This retrofit functionality is not just a convenience but a crucial advantage, providing a reliable and familiar access experience for tenants and end-users while enabling property managers to seamlessly integrate modern smart security and control.”

Another key feature for the ML2: Remote access and control with the free Alfred Home app, available for iOS and Android.

For residential homeowners, this advanced security and robust technology/connectivity are key attractive features of the ML2 Smart Mortise Lock, the company says.

“The ML2 comes standard with a concealed door position sensor, which, when installed, enhances security and enables intelligent auto-relock capabilities,” Cook said. “Coupled with encryption and tamper-proof technology, the ML2 ensures maximum protection against unauthorized access. There’s also the issue of available options for residential homeowners. Presently, there are very few smart mortise lock options available, but the ML2 provides the broadest options for connectivity, features and power. Should the homeowner prefer a specific brand, the ML2 enables them to enhance their existing setup with advanced digital features, offering the best of both worlds.”
