Casper City Council approves first reading of alarm ordinance

CASPER, Wyo.—The City Council here recently approved the first reading of its nuisance fire alarm ordinance, according to an article from the website of K2 radio, a local news radio station. The ordinance passed 7-2.
Under the ordinance, alarm subscribers in both residential and commercial settings will get two free false alarms annually but will be liable for a $100 fine for a third false alarm and each subsequent false alarm, according to the paper.
Those with alarm systems that are unregistered with the city will be fined upon first offense, the article said.
“When you're getting multiple false alarms, citizens need to be accountable for their alarm systems, as do businesses,” Paul Meyer, Casper mayor, was quoted as saying in the report.
The ordinance also proposes that a $10 fee will be required as part of the registration process. Two additional readings must be approved before the ordinance can be adopted, the report noted.
