CEA study: 8 in 10 homebuilders offer clients monitored security systems

ARLINGTON, Va.—Eight in 10 homebuilders offer clients monitored security systems, according to a study that looked at the market for built-in home technology.
The Consumer Electronics Association's 13th Annual State of Builder Technology Market Study found that in 2014 the options for home tech installed by builders either increased or remained consistent year over year, CEA said in a prepared statement.
“Installed home technologies are increasingly playing a key role in new construction,” said Chris Ely, CEA's senior manager, industry analysis, said in the statement. “Our study's findings suggest that more consumers see the value of installed home technologies and are willing to pay for them, making them a critical component in the overall industry.”
In 2014, 25 percent of builders, up seven points since 2013, said that installing monitored security increased their profit potential, according to the study.
Other installed technologies studied were home theater pre-wire systems and structured wiring.
