FAIRFIELD, N.J.-A digital filtering technology company announced in late October it had been granted a patent for its image enhancement technology that reduces picture noise through an increased algorithm process.
Nuwave Technology plans to license its technology to OEMs for bundling or embedding in products such as digital cameras to help reduce about 70 percent of the picture noise while ensuring the text and other elements of the image don't blur, according to Bob Webb, Nuwave's chief technology officer.
"Our basic chip can be put into a camera, a monitor or virtually anything that deals with TV," Webb said.
The image enhancing technology, able to be used with both digital and analog images, is enabled by an algorithm process that is three times faster than conventional filters, company officials said, and can be used in and during real-time streaming video.
The company plans to market its technology to manufacturers of CCTV, most of whom have been experiencing a surge of interest in surveillance cameras and other equipment since the attacks in New York and Washington on Sept. 11.
"Our goal with marketing is we'd like to be successful with the top 10 suppliers of security cameras and equipment," Webb said.
The company is courting Panasonic, Sony and other manufacturers.
Nuwave's technology is already in use at New York's Metropolitan Transit Authority and New Jersey State Crime Lab Agencies.
