ECKey launches cloud-based access control, visitor management

LANCASTER, Pa.—ECKey's new Smartphone access control and visitor management service increases convenience, productivity and security by allowing property managers to send encrypted electronic keys to anyone using a free app, the company said in a Sept. 13 news release.

“ECKey and VIZpin use the convenience of the cloud, the power of the Smartphone and reliability and convenience of Bluetooth to build systems on door at a time,” said Paul Bodell, ECKey president and CEO, in a prepared statement.

Called VIZpin, the system issues electronic keys, each of which lasts between 10 minutes and 15 minutes, and can be revoked in seconds. Each time a VIZPin key is used, the system makes a record of it and stores that information on a secure server.

ECKey expanded its sales team in early 2013, citing the growing demand for Smartphone access systems.

ECKey incorporated in the U.S. in 2008 and moved all its operations here last year. At the close of ECKey's Oct., 2012 funding round, Bodell said the company planned to expand its dealer base and start introducing Smartphone-based apps.
