Courtney Brown, managing director for Security Central, has been with the company for the past 28 years. Recently, the company acquired a third monitoring center through its purchase of Clemens, N.C.-based Loss Prevention Services, in early July. Brown, when looking back on the deal and its progress in early October, called the deal a “good move.” Security Systems News got the chance to speak with him about the system he has at home.
What kind of system do you have?
I use the … Honeywell 5100. … I'm old school, I use it to turn it on and off, but I [also] have the Total Connect. I enjoy the cameras because I have dogs, and I enjoy looking in on my dogs. I also like to see who comes and goes in my house. The thermostat option is pretty nice, because I do travel quite a bit.
Why this particular setup?
Because it's convenient, and it's easy to use. Ease of use is very important to me. … The smart phone or smart devices make it very user friendly.
What is one aspect of your security system that you wouldn't want to live without?
I use it every night when I'm home. … I like the notification when a door is opened and I like the stay mode when I'm home.
Where do you see security going next? What are some big trends?
I think we'll be more technology dependent. More from a traditional type of alarm monitoring standpoint, we'll be monitoring more lifestyle signaling … to not just residential, but to any industry. I see us paralleling the IT industry and getting away from just standard, traditional-type alarm monitoring [including home automation]. You're seeing that every day now.
