While he is now the COO of NorthStar Home, a residential alarm company based out of Orem, Utah, Dan Noble originally worked in finance.

“Prior to NorthStar, I worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers—I was in the auditing practice at Dallas, Texas,” Noble said.

He has been in the security industry for nine years. “I like the protection that we're giving to our customers,” he said. “It's nice to be with a product and a company that you believe in.”

Noble said he first got into the industry when a friend from college who had started a company in the industry, Vision Security, contacted him. “[He] called me and was telling me about it and basically said, 'I need a finance guy, we're only doing … a couple thousand accounts and we want to grow this.'” While Noble became the CFO of the company, he was also involved in the operations, he said.

Noble joined NorthStar when it acquired Vision Security in January 2015.

As NorthStar's COO, Noble oversees three departments: quality assurance, which covers account creation and contract auditing; customer experience, including customer care, tech support, collections and field service; and IT departments.

Doorbell cameras and automated door locks “are our most marketed and well-received products. We really use those two together to provide both a connected home and a secure home,” Noble explained.

Noble said the scope of his role spans the major operations with the company, and involves about 175 of the company's roughly 250 operations employees. The company, which utilizes a summer sales model, has about 300 salespeople.

NorthStar moved into a new 30,000 square-foot facility in April 2016, bringing all of its operations teams under one roof. Noble said that the new space, on a prominent intersection in Orem, Utah, gives the company more visibility in the community.
