ISC New Product Showcase winners

While I had a minute, I wanted to post the ISC West New Product Showcase winners. Here's the press release from SIA:

LAS VEGAS - Iris on the Move from Sarnoff won the Best New Product Award at the Security Industry Association New Product Showcase on Wednesday. Iris on the Move is an iris recognition device that can capture an iris image at a distance of as much as 10 feet while an individual is in motion and allows a throughput of as many as 30 people per minute.

I don't know - just seems kind of niche-y to be the best new product at the whole ISC West show. I'm sure it's awesome.

CyberKey Vault from Videx received the Judges' Choice Award, which recognizes an entry that offers an especially unique approach to a security solution. The CyberKey Vault is an intelligent key cabinet that automatically programs and dispenses electronic keys and requires the use of an RFID card or PIN.

I like that it's called the Judges' Choice Award. Aren't all the awards the judges' choices?

Eighty five products and services were entered in the NPS. In addition to the Best New Product and Judges' Choice honors, awards were presented in 15 categories.

So, 15 of 85 entrants won an award. How many submissions where there in each category? Even if it were perfectly averaged, you're only looking at fewer than six entrants per category. But, hey, you can only beat the other entrants, I guess. It just seems like a small number when you consider the 916 exhibitors. Is the entrance fee too high? In theory, the best cow competition at the Cumberland County Fair, put on by my local 4H, may be more competitive (there may be some residual snarkiness rearing its head from my red eye home). However:

"We had an outstanding group of entrants this year, making Sarnoff's win all the more impressive," NPS Committee Chair Jennifer Martin said. "We congratulate Sarnoff, Videx and the other winners, and we thank all of the participating companies for launching their products and services in the New Product Showcase."

Shows what I know. It was an outstanding group.

The NPS, the premier awards-based marketing program in the security industry, is held annually in conjunction with ISC West. For the first time this year, the program had its own section on the ISC West show floor where attendees could view some of the most innovative security solutions on the market.

I don't understand the words: "Awards-based marketing program," but I'm not marketing expert. It's that a legal phrase? Anyway, you don't care about all that. Here are the winners.

Congrats to all the winners. I actually heard a number of people complimenting, for example, Mark Kolar on IPVision Software's win before and after our panel discussion on Thursday morning. There was the sentiment that those things are hard to win, and Mark was clearly pleased with it. Perception is reality, as I like to say.
