NICE, UNICOM Government help secure Miami airport

RA'ANANA, Israel and LOS ANGELES, Calif.—NICE Systems and UNICOM Government are providing a runway incursion detection system to secure the airfield operations area at Miami International Airport, the companies announced.
Integrators are using NICE Situator to coordinate video, radar, CPS tracking and the airport's first-responder communications system, the news release says. With the detection solution, security personnel can spot unidentified objects on the runway or respond quickly to an accident or breach of security, according to the release.
“NICE's Situator solution is a proven solution at several major airports, and underscores UNICOM Government's focus on providing the best solutions for MIA and all of our customers,” said Corry Hong, president and CEO of UNICOM Government, in a prepared statement.
Yaron Tchwella, president of the NICE security group, said in a prepared statement, “MIA's runway incursion detection solution is a perfect example of how airports can use their existing resources and technology more effectively in order to address a range of pressing safety and security challenges.”
This project is the continuation of a UNICOM-led security upgrade begun in 2012. Ray Davlos, Miami International Airport building systems manager, and Lauren Stover, airport public safety, security and communications director, discussed the upgrade at the TechSec conference in February.
