GERMANTOWN, Md. - Following the acquisition of NKF Electronics, Optelecom changed its name to Optelecom-NKF to better reflect the impact of the deal on the merged company's product line and geographic reach.
Optelecom completed the $26-million acquisition in the first quarter of this year, purchasing the company in a combination cash and stock deal from NKF's former parent company Draka Holding, an Amsterdam-based holding firm with subsidiaries that provide cable and cable systems.
Prior to the deal, both NKF and Optelecom manufactured fiber optic-based communications products for video surveillance, traffic monitoring and business video systems. As both companies were similarly aligned but based on separate continents, the merged company is better equipped to tackle the European and North American markets.
Optelecom-NKF continues to be traded under the stock ticker OPTC.
