DALLAS - A new report by Parks Associates shows that consumers are beginning warm up to the idea of extending data networks beyond simple PC connectivity to turn such systems into multimedia hubs.
The report, the Status of Digital Networks and Applications, shows the results of a survey of more than 1,000 Internet households. The results show that consumers are using home computer and electronic platforms into media centers for storage, aggregation and streaming of audio and video content.
"This research establishes the growing desire among specific consumer segments for connectivity beyond the PC LAN," said Tricia Parks, president of Parks Associates and author of the report. The report was also done in conjunction with the Consumer Electronics Association.
The survey provides data on home networks, consumer electronics ownership, and future purchase intentions. In all, 1,075 people from Internet households completed the survey.
