DETROIT — Artificial Intelligence Technology Solutions (AITX) and its subsidiary Robotic Assistance Devices Residential (RAD-R) have introduced a new feature for RADCam called Package Theft Prevention that they say takes residential security to the next level.

The company believes the feature, which is designed to deter and respond to unauthorized package removal, is the first residential security camera to offer this level of proactive theft prevention.

“Package theft is one of the most common and frustrating issues homeowners face, especially during the holiday season,” said Steve Reinharz, CEO/CTO of AITX and RAD-R. “With RADCam’s unique Package Theft Prevention feature, we’re providing homeowners with a solution that doesn’t just observe, it actively deters and protects. This level of proactive, intelligent security is a game-changer for residential applications.”

Powered by RADCam’s AI capabilities and built on AITX’s proprietary AIR (Autonomous Intelligent Response) technology, RADCam automatically notifies the homeowner or resident of a package delivery, ensuring that they’re informed in real time. Simultaneously, it activates a sophisticated monitoring routine, keeping a vigilant eye on the package. If any individual approaches the package without proper authorization, RADCam springs into action with real-time warnings, instant audible alarm, owner authorization and other protocols.

Package theft, commonly perpetrated by "porch pirates," remains a significant concern in the United States. In 2023, approximately 119 million packages were reported stolen nationwide, marking a 5% increase from the previous year.

“The Package Theft Prevention feature in RADCam is something I’m passionate about because it represents a shift in how we think about residential security,” said Mark Folmer, president at RAD. “Traditional security cameras have primarily been reactive, recording incidents but offering little to prevent them in real time. RADCam changes that dynamic by being proactive, interactive and intelligent.”

AITX noted that surveys indicate roughly 14% of Americans experienced package theft in 2022, with the average value of stolen items being $112.30. Suburban residents were 50.3% more likely to be victimized than urban dwellers and seven times more likely than those in rural areas.

“Beyond package theft prevention, I believe this feature is part of a broader vision for RAD devices,” Folmer concluded.
