Roku announces expanded smart home integration features

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Roku has announced an expansion of its smart home features that offers users greater control from the comfort of their television.

The expansion improves users access to camera feeds and adds functionality to medium and small screens (aka, the phone or computer) via Roku’s Web View.

Coming in the Winter of 2024, Roku Smart Home expanded features include:

  • Camera Carousel: Automatically cycles through each camera feed on your TV, using motion detection to display the camera where the action is happening.
  • More notifications on the TV: Just like you receive alerts on your phone when your cameras detect various events, you will have the option to get these notifications directly on your TV.
  • Roku Smart Home Web View: Starting this winter, users can monitor all camera feeds from one centralized location on any computer or web device.

Roku Smart Home users can already view live streams of their Roku Smart Home cameras and video doorbells from any Roku TV or player, use their voice remote to dim or change the color of the lights, and more. The Camera Carousel, Smart Home Web View, and additional notifications described above will become available for free with automatic software updates.

“All these features are available for all Roku Smart Home camera and doorbell products, including our Floodlight Camera, Video Doorbell, Wire-free Video Doorbell and Chime, Indoor 360 Camera, Outdoor Wire-free Camera, and the Indoor and Outdoor Wired Camera SE,” the company wrote.

Roku Smart Home products are certified by ioXt Alliance, the global standard for connected devices. Additional security capabilities include two-factor authentication (2FA), user data encryption, secure boot, and other advanced protection settings.
