BOCA RATON, Fla.--Devcon International, a publicly traded regional electronic security services provider, construction company, and materials distributor, announced this week the appointment of Ron Lakey as chief operating officer. Lakey will also serve as president of Devcon Security Services, the company's security division.
Lakey's handling of the day-to-day operations, according to a release, with allow chief executive officer Stephen Ruzika to focus on the strategic direction of the company, as well as capital markets and investor relations.
Lakey is being promoted from his role as president of Devcon's Construction and Materials divisions, which the company has been reportedly trying to divest itself of since Devcon entered the security business in late 2004 by buying Ruzika's Security Equipment and naming him president of the company. A deal this summer to sell the Construction division to Symonette Group for $12 million fell through in late August.
With significant time spent at Crime Control and ADT, however, Lakey is not new to the security business. He served as chief financial officer at Crime Control, then, after it was purchased by ADT, he headed up ADT's IT department and eventually had overall responsibility for the company's Canadian and European operations.
