Security system thief nabbed by security system

ALTON, Ill.—A Wal-Mart store surveillance system caught a man trying to steal, of all things, a security system for his home, according to an article in the Belleville News Democrat, a newspaper covering southern Illinois.

The surveillance system caught Tyler Graham, 29, trying to make off with the system, according to the newspaper. Loss prevention personnel at the store contacted the Madison County Sheriff's Office to report a suspected theft when empty packages for a video security system, two wireless home monitoring kits and a GPS unit were found in the store, according to the article.

The thief had already left the store before personnel had reviewed the store's security footage, Madison County Sheriff's Capt. T. Mike Dixon told the newspaper.

A week later the man returned to the scene of the crime and Wal-Mart personnel called police. After leaving the store in a yellow Mustang he was stopped for a minor traffic violation, and identified as the alleged thief of the home security system, the article said.

Graham was charged with burglary and a judge set his bond at $80,000.
