SILVER SPRING, Md.—The Security Industry Association and the County Executives of America have signed a memorandum of understanding, pledging to share resources to bolster public safety and emergency management, according to a Dec. 18 announcement.
The partnership brings to bear suppliers' technological expertise and government management's understanding of local public safety needs as the groups work to find gaps in emergency preparedness, according to the statement.
“This agreement will facilitate the delivery of timely information to public leaders and policy makers to keep them up to date on the best physical security solutions available to meet their objectives and resolve challenges,” said Don Erickson, CEO of SIA, in a prepared statement. “We have seen that local leaders require flexibility to adopt security plans and technologies that work best in their jurisdictions, whether they are responding to a threat to their local schools or augmenting resiliency in critical infrastructure, such as power plants.”
The groups hope to develop clear channels of communication to help educate government officials about security technologies, while offering them assistance in developing technology plans to meet their needs, according to the statement.
SIA and CEA plan to develop vendor-neutral best practices and case studies, present a webcast series on technology and public policy and coordinate advocacy work.
