SILVER SPRING, Md.—The Security Industry Association (SIA) has named Dan Moceri as the 2023 recipient of the George R. Lippert Memorial Award, an honor presented annually to a distinguished individual for long-term, selfless service to the security industry and to SIA.
Moceri will be presented with the award on Wednesday, Nov. 15, during the 2023 SIA Honors Night reception – and will accept it on behalf of Convergint colleagues around the world.
Moceri – a longtime SIA member and former SIA Board of Directors and Executive Committee member – is the co-founder and executive chairman of Convergint, a global systems integrator with a workforce of nearly 10,000 colleagues spread across more than 200 offices worldwide. He is also a partner in Moceri + Roszak, a Chicago-based real estate developer. Moceri graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and earned his master’s degree in management from Northwestern University.
“On behalf of nearly 10,000 Convergint colleagues, including my co-founder, Greg Lernihan, I am honored to accept the George Lippert Memorial Award. This recognition would not be possible without the outstanding efforts of all Convergint colleagues,” said Moceri. “Our mission at Convergint has always been to elevate the security industry, which holds such a critical role in our society. This award signifies Convergint’s enduring dedication to both the industry and to the Security Industry Association that has long supported it. Convergint looks forward to continuing its strong relationship with SIA, together growing and uplifting the community of this important profession.”
Prior to starting Convergint, Moceri was the president of Siemens Building Technologies Security Division for North America. Moceri was the recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Technology in the Midwest Region recognition for his role in co-founding Convergint. He sits on numerous board and advisory seats, including Convergint, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the nonprofit Aspire of Chicago and Foundation United, and is a member of the MSOE Board of Regents, for which he served as board chairman from 2018-2021 and serves on the Executive Committee and Governance Committee.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Moceri and his family have established the Moceri Family Foundation, dedicated to supporting nonprofit organizations that champion causes related to women and children, enhancing health care, eliminating human trafficking, and alleviating hunger.
“For many years, Dan Moceri has set the standard for professionalism and business success in the security industry. As a system integrator (SI) first with Siemens then as a co-founder of Convergint Technologies, he has grown the business by always putting customers first,” noted Sandy Jones, managing director of Sandra Jones and Company, honorary SIA member and 1991 Lippert Award winner. “His success and growth have been unparalleled and are now legendary. It is this success that not only attracted investment into Convergint but caught the eye of other investors, creating more opportunities for SI and better outcomes for their customers. He also invested his time and has given back to the industry in many ways.”
Moceri has been an active and involved member of the SIA Board of Directors, and while he is no longer on the board, he supports and encourages others at his company to participate in a variety of SIA activities and initiatives, including the Security Industry Compensation Study, the SIA Women in Security Forum, the Securing New Ground conference and SIA’s training programs. He has also been highly engaged in industry workforce development efforts.
“Dan Moceri has always been a key driver of the security industry,” added Scott Schafer, principal at SMS Advisors, former SIA Board of Directors chair and 2022 Lippert Award honoree. “He led strong efforts at Siemens USA before building Convergint into one of the top systems integrators in the world. His passion for customers, employees and partners has always been first rate.”
“Dan Moceri’s business approach built on deep relationships with Convergint’s business partners, unparalleled customer service, along with company values and beliefs is a schoolbook example of long-term success,” said Fredrik Nilsson, vice president, Americas at Axis Communications, former SIA Board of Directors member and 2016 Lippert Award honoree. “Dan’s contributions to the security industry are having profound and long-lasting impact, and I am proud to call him not only an industry colleague, but also a friend.”
SIA’s Lippert Award is named in honor of George R. Lippert, who dedicated more than 20 years of his life to SIA and the security industry. When evaluating candidates for this award, SIA’s committee considers nominees’ long-term service to SIA and the security industry, the impact of their efforts on behalf of SIA and the industry and the integrity, leadership and diplomacy displayed in their industry dealings.
