BOCA RATON, Fla. - Fire protection firm SimplexGrinnell has appointed a new president to replace Michael Buchanan, whom company officials said is retiring this month.
Dean Seavers, who served most recently as vice president, West Region for ADT, will take over the reins of SimplexGrinnell at a time of cost-cutting at parent Tyco International. Tyco announced a massive restructuring of its Fire & Security division, of which SimplexGrinnell is a part, in early November. The retooling of the division was meant to trim the division by 5,000 employees and more than 25 businesses, none of which encompassed core Tyco Fire & Security operations and left brands such as ADT, SimplexGrinnell, Software House and American Dynamics relatively untouched.
After joining Tyco as ADT regional vice president of operations in Florida in 1999, Seavers rose quickly through the ranks and was promoted in 2001 to vice president for the Southeast U.S. Region for ADT. Company officials said during his tenure there, that region became one of ADT's top-performing regions.
Seavers has also served as director of operation planning for Burger King Corp. and regional manager for PepsiCo.
