SWEAR’s solution provides ‘counterpunch to AI’

NEW YORK—With an increasing amount of disinformation, Boise, Idaho-based SWEAR provides an innovative solution for the security sector to safeguard the integrity of digital content.

The solution, which uses real-time digital DNA encoding to safeguard security content, integrates directly at the video management system level, ensuring that every piece of content is preserved with a secure chain of custody and maintains integrity for evidentiary purposes.

SWEAR“The volume and velocity that we produce and consume digital media - video, photo, audio, metadata, any type of information, whether it's from cameras, smartphones, body cameras, voting machines - it's just monumental,” said Founder and CEO Jason Crawforth during the Security Industry Association’s recent Securing New Ground (SNG) conference. “We saw that the use of that (data) to substantiate or validate processes is critical in the security and surveillance industry.”

Earlier this year, SWEAR’s solution received the Judges’ Choice Award in the Software category as part of the New Products & Solutions (NPS) Awards at ISC West.

SWEAR’s solution integrates with cameras and other recording devices to map the digital DNA of every frame, sound bite, and pixel – all in real-time. The digital DNA is stored on a blockchain, creating an immutable record that tracks the content’s history and integrity. Any attempt to manipulate the media can be instantly detected by comparing the current state of the media to its original, authenticated version, Crawforth says.

“How can we produce something that is strong enough that it’s going to be infallible and cannot be broken even by AI, whether it's deepfakes or cheapfakes,” he said. “We tested ourselves with this, and we spent the last seven and a half years creating a technology that is strong enough to be a counterpunch to AI, and we did it.”

With 11 patents approved and others pending, SWEAR continues to carry out its mission of safeguarding the authenticity of digital media to foster a transparent global information ecosystem. Ultimately, SWEAR's vision is to become the global gold standard in digital media protection and authenticity, without the use of AI, Crawforth says.

“We developed a system that creates unbreakable content,” he said. “What’s important for the industry to do is you just don't use AI as a sword. AI can be used as a sword against you. That's where our technology comes into play.”
