White House releases National Cybersecurity Strategy

Administration announces national cybersecurity strategy

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Biden-Harris administration released its long-awaited National Cybersecurity Strategy today, offering Americans a glimpse at the future of the U.S. digital ecosystem.

In a release issued by the White House, the administration referred to the 2020s as a decisive decade where the United States will be reimagining cyberspace as a tool to achieve its goals in economic security, human rights, diversity, and trust in the democratic institution. “To realize this vision, we must make fundamental shifts in how the United States allocates roles, responsibilities, and resources in cyberspace,” the statement read.

Among the proposed strategies is a shift of cybersecurity responsibilities off of individuals, small business, and local government and onto organizations better positioned to bear that burden. They also stated a desire to realign incentives to favor long-term investments, striking a balance between a defensive threat posture and planning for a resilient future.

“President Biden’s National Cybersecurity Strategy is an important step forward in building a more secure cyberspace,” CISA Director Jen Easterly said in a statement. “In today’s ever increasingly digitized world, we face dynamic and evolving threats to the critical infrastructure that underpins much of our daily lives. That’s why the Biden-Harris administration has prioritized cybersecurity as a national security issue, and this strategy represents both the progress we have made and the work that remains.”

United States Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas also chimed in, saying, “The National Cybersecurity Strategy establishes a clear vision for a secure cyberspace. The Department of Homeland Security continuously evolves to counter emerging threats and protect Americans in our modern world. We will implement the President’s vision outline in this Strategy, working with partners across sectors and around the globe to provide  cybersecurity tools and resources, protect critical infrastructure, respond to and recover from cyber incidents, and pave the way for a more secure future.”

The entire National Cybersecurity Strategy can be found here.
