As associate editor, Tess works on developing a rapport with industry leaders to report and write on industry news, concentrating on the fire and residential beats. Her focus is on writing stories important to installers, integrators, manufacturers and distributors. Before joining Security Systems News in September 2010, Tess was a newspaper reporter in Maine for more than two decades. Most of that time, she worked for The Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram, and also was an occasional stringer for The New York Times. Tess has a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University and a master’s in linguistics from the University of Michigan. She lives in Maine with her husband and a demanding cat.
Rich covers the monitoring and central station beat as associate editor. He joined Security Systems News in November 2011 after nearly 25 years in the newspaper world, recently completing his second tour of duty as a copy editor with the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from the University of Maine. Rich lives in Maine and gets most of his exercise trying to keep up with the chaos that comes with teen children.
Prior to joining United Publications in 2005 to head up the Conference Division, Kerry worked in sales and marketing in the hotel, conference and wine industries. She left United in 2009 to serve as the Vice President of the Portland Regional Chamber, overseeing all membership sales and services. Kerry is thrilled to return to United to do media sales for the Security Group. She serves the Southeast, Midwest and Western regions. Personally, Kerry serves as Board President for Acorn Productions, a local theater company; and lives in South Portland, Maine with her 2 children.
With 10+ years experience in publishing, Tim joined United Publications in 2008 as Group Publisher. Tim came from Reed Business Information as a Publisher and worked with several properties serving the electronic market, Wireless Design & Development, Fiberoptic Product News, and Lasers & Optronics. Tim’s focus was brand development (print and online), strategic planning and revenue growth. In previous lives, Tim has been Director of Human Resources at E&B Marine, a national retailer with stores in 18 states and revenue in excess of $100 million. He also served in the United States Coast Guard. Tim is married with three children and resides in Yarmouth, Maine.
