As editor, Martha is responsible for all editorial content, print and online, and can address any concerns or questions you might have. Her "beats" are the commercial installation and integration market and the vendor/manufacturing community. She became editor in September of 2010 after serving as managing editor and associate editor. Before joining Security Systems News in 2005, she wrote for mainstream newspapers, worked in government, and on political campaigns. She has a BA in political science and American Literature from Middlebury. Martha lives in Maine with her husband and two teen-aged children.  

As managing editor, Tess works on developing a rapport with industry leaders to report and write on industry news, concentrating on the fire and residential beats. Her focus is on writing stories important to installers, integrators, manufacturers and distributors. Before joining Security Systems News in September 2010, Tess was a newspaper reporter in Maine for more than two decades. Most of that time, she worked for The Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram, and also was an occasional stringer for The New York Times. Tess has a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University and a master’s in linguistics from the University of Michigan. She lives in Maine with her husband and a demanding cat.

Leif covers the monitoring and central station beat as associate editor. He fully joined Security Systems News in June 2013 after working previously as the web editor at United Publications, where he divided his time between covering the security and home medical equipment industries. A Maine native, Leif graduated from Wheaton College (Ma.) as an undergraduate and holds a Master's in journalism from the University of Missouri.

Rob, our Western States media rep, has over 23 years of marketing and advertising experience. He has worked in the Security Installing Industry for five years as well as in Financial Services. Rob lives in Phoenix with his wife and two beautiful daughters.

Sarah, our Northeast and Eastern Canada media rep, joined United Publications with over 20 years marketing, sales and event experience. Her background includes work in Education, Fine Art Sales, Retail Management and global trade events in the Food Industry. She comes to the role from Diversified Communications, a Portland, Maine based organizer of International trade shows and Publisher of B2B magazines. Sarah shares a very old home in Maine with her wonderful husband, two mostly wonderful teens and an almost perfect chocolate lab.

Prior to joining United Publications in 2005 to head up the Conference Division, Kerry worked in sales and marketing in the hotel, conference and wine industries. She left United in 2009 to serve as the Vice President of the Portland Regional Chamber, overseeing all membership sales and services. Kerry is thrilled to return to United to do media sales for the Security Group. She serves the Southeast, Midwest and Western regions. Personally, Kerry serves as Board President for Acorn Productions, a local theater company; and lives in South Portland, Maine with her 2 children.

With 20+ years experience in publishing, Tim joined United Publications in 2008 as Group Publisher. Tim came from Reed Business Information as a Publisher and worked with several properties serving the electronic market, Wireless Design & Development, Fiberoptic Product News, and Lasers & Optronics. Tim’s focus was brand development (print and online), strategic planning and revenue growth. In previous lives, Tim has been Director of Human Resources at E&B Marine, a national retailer with stores in 18 states and revenue in excess of $100 million. He also served in the United States Coast Guard. Tim is married with three children and resides in Yarmouth, Maine.
