Axis' Citilog purchase to bring more tools to customers Kessler: Deal means easier access to intelligence and integration for higher end projects

STOCKHOLM—Network video provider Axis Communications on Feb. 1 announced the acquisition of Citilog, a provider of intelligent real-time video monitoring for traffic and transportation security and safety.

“This is a big thing in video surveillance, adding more intelligence and integration to mid-level and higher-end projects,” Jeff Kessler of Imperial Capital told Security Systems News.

“This allows Axis to offer more tools and more value-add to its integrators,” Kessler said. By adding more “smart sensor-type technology to their products, Axis will be “better able to compete with [other video surveillance providers] who compete on price,” Kessler added.

Based in Paris, France, with offices in the United States, Hong Kong and Spain, Citilog is a privately held company with 30 employees.

It provides video analytics tools and sensors for transportation monitoring, such as automatic incident detection, traffic data collection and intersection control.

Axis and Citilog have worked together previously on engineering and sales. The Citilog technology is currently deployed at the Lincoln and Holland Tunnels in New York.

“Citilog's proven products are well known to the traffic sector, and complement our solutions for the most demanding requirements in that market. Their commitment to developing quality, innovative and easy-to-use products is consistent with Axis' approach to provide the most competitive, highest value solution for a range of customer needs,” Ray Mauritsson, Axis CEO, said in a prepared statement.
