Convergint buys in Florida

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.—Convergint Technologies is reaching more physical security customers in Florida, thanks to its recent acquisition of Qualified Systems Contracting, Inc.

“Essentially, it fills in a gap in the geographical area, in terms of being able to service our customers,” said Dan Moceri, co-founder and CEO of Convergint. “So, while we've just started up operations in Florida, what it gives us is an immediate access to service a number of our customers in the state of Florida.”

With the purchase, Convergint has picked up three locations in Florida: Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville, along with hundreds of Qualified Systems' customers, said Moceri.

Qualified Systems founder Dave Torgerson will stay on as general manager of the Florida locations, said Moceri. Qualified's 40 employees have joined Convergint, which has hired two additional employees in Florida, he said.

Associates in the Florida locations sell and supply the same products Convergint does, providing a high level of integration and support to customers, Moceri said.

Moceri said the deal reflects Convergint's geographic and services business strategies. “They fit very nicely into the geographic side to what we're doing,” he said. “We've always differentiated Convergint based on services. Everything that we sell and support, other people sell and support in the same geographic locations. So, our big differentiator from day one has been on the services side.”

Moceri said that Qualified Systems was well aligned with Convergint in terms of the products and services they provide. He said the cultural similarities between the two companies are substantial and important.

Terms of the acquisition are confidential, Moceri said.

In 2012, when Convergint partnered with private equity investor KRG Capital Partners, the company announced plans to grow organically and pursue acquisitions to expand its geographic footprint. Moceri said the purchase of Qualified Systems Contracting is the first of those growth acquisitions.
