Reggy Timothee, 31

Manager of facility security, Comcast

West Chester, Penn.

Reggy Timothee “stumbled into” the security industry during college when he worked as a guard.

Now he works to support physical security, critical infrastructure, engineering back offices, data centers and contracted guard staffing at 45 locations in 16 states coast to coast.

His start in the industry gave him “a grasp on how operations were performed even at the lowest level,” he said. Then, however, he got interested in the technology-end of the industry and pursued and earned a degree in management information systems.

“Venturing into analytics and big data would be the biggest bang for my buck at this point,” he said. “I'm really looking to invest in physical security management/physical security information management.

“I'm looking to be proactive rather than reactive, to replace the manual effort with the ability to correlate security systems—events, alarms, abnormalities—to have that data and use it efficiently to identify a threat,” Timothee said.

His biggest challenge now is standardization of systems.

Sometimes, he said, he's “fortunate enough” to build a new site and get it in sync with his current systems, but other times he will inherit a facility where the security system hasn't been evaluated in two decades.

What's challenging is “trying to balance the useful life of those systems and technologies,” he said.

Keeping up with technological advances, and, in his job, government regulations, will be his future challenges—“staying ahead of the game, leveraging those tools, keeping up with the pace,” he said.
