Five Questions: Eric Lipson

Eric Lipson started as a regional account executive at Electric Guard Dog in early November. Based in the Charlotte, N.C., area, he covers sales for the company throughout the state. Security Systems News caught up with Lipson in late November and asked him five questions.

Are you married, do you have kids?

I've been married a little over three years to my wife, her name is Cody. No kids yet, but plenty of four-legged children that keep us pretty busy. … [We have] three cats and a dog.

What do you like about where you live?

My wife grew up in Hickory, N.C., which is about an hour outside of Charlotte, and I'm originally from Atlanta, and for us, Charlotte it just an awesome middle ground. … It's great for us because she's very much used to the more rural settings, and I'm kind of more used to the city.

Have you read any good books lately?

I do enjoy reading books and publications that can help me gain knowledge and perspective on topics that will help me grow professionally. For instance, I just recently read Cargo Crime by J.J. Coughlin. The trucking industry is one of the key verticals that we serve in my new role and it's helped me gain insight into the pain points and the problems that we're solving.

What are some of your hobbies or interests?

If I'm not with my wife, spending time with her, I'm most likely on the golf course. I played golf in college and spent a couple of years playing the mini-tours after college. So, it's always been a big part of my life and it's still something that I enjoy.

How did you get started in the security industry?

In 2012, I was given the opportunity to work with a regional security integrator, selling residential and commercial burglar alarms, fire alarms, CCTV, and access control. I spent two years there learning the business before I moved … to the wholesale monitoring side.
