Networker to buy BeAtHome.com

FARGO, N.D.-Wireless home automation company BeAtHome.com  announced in January it had agreed to be acquired by home connectivity platform developer Echelon Corp., an acquisition that is expected to be completed by the end of this month. Company officials from San Jose, Calif.-based Echelon said their interest in the company lay in the potential combination of BeAtHome.com's platform, an Internet-based platform that offers home owners, property managers or other end-users remote control over devices in a home or other location, and Echelon's own device connectivity system. Where BeAtHome had concentrated on U.S. homes, Echelon was already recognized as a significant player in the worldwide networking market, said BeAtHome Founder and President Thor Iverson. The combination of the two platforms could play host to a wide range of applications, he said, such as in utility management and energy services. The transaction is subject to the approval of BeAtHome's shareholders.
