Port Angeles set to install 28 security cameras

PORT ANGELES, Wash.—The city of Port Angeles hopes to have 28 digital security cameras installed along the city waterfront by year's end.
Cascade Networks will install 10 new digital cameras along the waterfront and replace 18 analog cameras, the Peninsula Daily News reports. The city also must install fiber-optic Internet cables for the system.
Police will be able to remotely zoom and move some cameras, and to watch footage on mobile devices and patrol-car computers; however, officers will not constantly watch video footage, police chief Terry Gallagher said. “The biggest advantage to us is that if an incident occurs, these cameras [could] capture evidence,” Gallagher told the Peninsula Daily News.
The city's $236,805 contract with Cascade Networks, funded by city money and a Federal Emergency Management Agency port-security grant, piggybacked on a Cascade contract with Seattle.
