Securitron Magnalock's Cook to head Medeco

Securitron Magnalock's Cook to head Medeco Bob Cook has spent 20 years with Securitron and helped to shape the company

SPARKS, Nev.-After more than 20 years of heading Securitron Magnalock, Robert Cook is leaving the company to take over the reigns at sister company Medeco Security Locks. Cook was one of the original employees of the electromagnetic locking and access control product manufacturer when it was started by a group of investors in 1981. In two decades, Cook helped build Securitron from a one to two person garage operation into a company renowned in the security industry that employs more than 100 people today. "The thing that we did that was a bit different was that we were the guys that brought electric locks that are part of the access control system and brought it into the alarm marketplace," said Cook, president and chief executive officer of Securitron Magnalock. Both Securitron and Medeco are part of the ASSA ABLOY Group of companies. Medeco, a company with 400 employees based in Salem, Va., specializes in mechanical locks. "This is a transfer in the ASSA ABLOY Group. It's not to turn Medeco into an electronics company," said Cook. "It's giving me a new assignment." Cook is replacing Bernd-D Wempen, who is returning to Germany to become president of IKON AG. Cook, who became president of Medeco in December, will continue as president of Securitron until a replacement is appointed.
