Vicon debuts biometric system

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y.-Through a partnership with an Israeli image recognition developer, Vicon Industries introduced an integrated facial recognition and area surveillance system that can monitor abnormal behavior, perform object detection and other functions, company officials said. The Facematch system was developed and manufactured by Mate-CCTV, who will be working with QSR, Ltd., Vicon's Israeli development subsidiary, to incorporate the biometric technology into Vicon's proprietary digital video network platform. In addition to facial recognition, the system monitors target areas for counting, directional movement, and object classification, insertion or removal, company officials said. Itzhak Wilf, chief executive officer of Mate-CCTV, said his company partnered with Vicon because of that company's position as a strong market player. Vicon will be a "key OEM partner" for his company, he said. The Facematch system will be available this month for preliminary evaluation with production units scheduled to be released over the next few months.
