Pirate again says sell, but Brink's looks at buying

NORWALK, Conn.--Despite recent travails of its own, Pirate Capital, an activist hedge fund and major stockholder of The Brink's Company, has not given up the ship on getting Brink's to put itself up for sale. However, analysts believe that Brink's will be less likely to heed Pirate's advice and more likely to pursue acquisitions.

Securitas USA acquires Safeguard Services

ORANGE, Calif.--In its first U.S. acquisition since spinning off Securitas Systems, Securitas USA announced its purchase of Safeguard Services, based in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Nov. 9. Terms of the deal were not released. Safeguard largely serves the business and property management sector in Hawaii.
Securitas USA is now a completely separate company from Securitas Systems, the systems integration firm, after a successful Sept. 1 spinoff.

NEW YORK--Verified Identity Pass, one of three major players in the Transportation Security Administration's Registered Traveler program, announced Nov. 27 that is has had its Clear program approved as a Registered Traveler Service Provider. Clear is the first such program to receive approval for national roll-out and is currently in place at the Orlando airport.

Scotia Bank customers rewarded by Voxcom

EDMONTON, Alberta--Voxcom Security Systems announced Nov. 27 a new partnership with ScotiaStar Network, Scotia Bank's credit card rewards program.
Under the deal, ScotiaStar members who buy a home security system from Voxcom and use its monthly monitoring service will receive rewards associated with their Scotia Bank account.
Voxcom has more than 118,000 customers. Scotiabank serves 10 million customers in 50 countries.

International Police Association endorses CP-01 standard

FRISCO, Texas--The International Police Association struck another blow in the war being waged against false alarms last month when it passed a resolution calling for jurisdictions to make the SIA CP-01 standard compulsory for all alarm control panels. The resolution also calls for all manufacturers to comply with the standard in future production of alarm panels.

CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif.--Global ePoint on Nov. 20 appointed former Los Angeles Police Department Chief and regarded terrorism authority Daryl F. Gates as president of the digital video surveillance manufacturer.
Gates serves on Global ePoint's board of directors and was chairman of Global Airworks, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Global ePoint. He will continue to serve on the board in addition to overseeing operations of the entire company.
