IRVINE, Calif.—Allied Universal announced it has launched a GoFundMe page for families of victims of the Maui wildfires, the deadliest wildfire in modern U.S. history.
The company has raised more than $95,000 thus far on its GoFundMe page, with a goal of raising $150,000.
As Security Systems News reported, one Allied Universal security professional is among the confirmed victims of the Maui wildfires, which have killed more than 100 people as of press time. The company noted that other employees still remain unaccounted for.
“We are hopeful they are safe, and every effort is being made to contact them,” Allied Universal said in a statement.
Allied Universal CEO Steve Jones issued a statement on Aug. 14, saying, “We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the Allied Universal security professional whose life was lost in the fire near Lahaina. And we remain hopeful that those who are unaccounted for are safe and will be located soon.”
The company said that it is “working to get much-needed supplies, grief counseling and additional support to team members – some who lost loved ones, their homes and their modes of transportation yet have continued reporting to work each day to safeguard their island community.”
Allied Universal explained that the GoFundMe page was created “to provide immediate short-term financial assistance to the family of our fallen team member and other Maui-based team members for housing, transportation and other unanticipated costs created by the wildfires and their devastating aftermath.”
The statement concluded by saying, “Our thoughts go out to the victims, survivors, their loved ones, the 29 customers we serve on Maui, the island’s community and the entire state of Hawaii.”
