COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Bold Technologies recently announced that it is adding a second data center in Los Angeles to support its Manitou Cloud Service.
Having a second data center will essentially double the company's footprint and “allow us to offer different things like being a large center's secondary location. … A lot of these large central stations are purchasing—or they're going to have to purchase—a second facility to meet the new UL spec. We can actually act as that second facility,” Shaun Blair, Bold's director of SaaS, told Security Systems News. The company's primary data center is based in Colorado Springs, Colo.
“We started this process last year. It's something that we've always known that we were going to need to do,” Blair said. “When we launched cloud services and started to offer that to our customers, we knew we would need to get a second data center up. So, we started evaluating different locations for different reasons.”
The Los Angeles data center, operated by CoreSite, offers “better connectivity and better phone line quality since we're in the data center that the carriers use in that location,” Blair said.
Blair said that Bold should have the new center fully functional and tested by the end of April. “Everything is laid out and we have all of the equipment in place. What we're doing now is just standing up the networking and the telco on that side,” he said.
Bold's Manitou Cloud Service has “grown exponentially over the past year,” Blair said, adding that the service accounted for 70 percent of total sales in Q4 2017. “This is definitely a focus for us. We see cloud services as a big way forward for Bold. This is really where we're putting a lot of our effort as far as new sales and existing customers,” he said.
