YARMOUTH, Maine — The approaching fall season is a good time for security providers to check in with their residential customers to review fire safety tips, confirm their devices are working properly and make sure they’re stocked up on emergency supplies, according to Brinks Home.
"It's easy to get swept up in the excitement of the changing season—from back-to-school activities and setting up the best Halloween decorations to the countdown to Thanksgiving,” said Sara Harshbarger, senior vice president and general manager of direct to consumer for Brinks Home. “At Brinks Home, we believe that professional security providers should be diligent in ensuring their customers' homes are fully prepared for the unique challenges that fall brings. This means checking and maintaining essential safety devices like smoke detectors and carbon monoxide sensors and advising on enhancements such as outdoor lighting to account for shorter daylight hours. Every season requires adjustments to home security systems, and by staying proactive, we can help prevent potential hazards and ensure our customers' safety throughout the fall and into the colder months ahead."
Brinks Home recently posted a blog to its website outlining a number of fall safety and security tips, including:
-
Survey outdoor electrical sources. Make sure all electrical cords are approved for outdoor use and inspect cords to ensure they’re not frayed or damaged. Check that outlets are weatherproofed and have ground fault circuit interrupters to prevent shock.
-
Assess backyard privacy. Falling leaves can open up your backyard to the gazes of people passing by. Keep an eye out for ways to create privacy in your backyard, such as adding evergreen trees to your fence line.
-
Wipe down sensors and security cameras. Make sure you’re able to see your UPS delivery person or anyone else who may come to your door.
